n other news of the day, another restaurant staffed mostly by robots has opened in the Hefei, Anhui province of China. This one’s slightly different than some of the others, as it is named Wall.e – you know, like the Disney/Pixar robot? It’s anyone’s best guess as to how long it’ll have that name without Disney legally intervening, but for now it seems to be staying.

It seems China is opening quite a few restaurants that are mainly filled with robotic employees as of late. While on one hand it sounds really strange, on the other hand it sounds like an oddly good idea. Think about it for just a moment – robots don’t need time off (unless they break), they don’t call in sick, they don’t have interpersonal problems with other robot coworkers, they don’t have to deal with poor attitudes – in other words, they don’t have the same problems human employees have. (That’s not to say they don’t have problems, but that’s a topic for another article). It’s unclear exactly what all the robots do in the Wall.e restaurant vs. what humans do, but they are at the least involved in serving food to customers.
One can only wonder with the popularity of robot restaurants in China when they will be seen in the other parts of the world – hopefully it won’t be too long!
